Friday Ramblings From An Author

A short work week for most of us and one I always think is a little like the week in between Christmas and the New Year. Most people know it’s back to work yet haven’t moved into first gear yet.

If there’s one book that’s got everyone talking about everything from erotica to how much money an author can make it’s Fifty Shades of Grey. I’ve lost count  how many people who have asked my opinion about it. I have to admit I haven’t read any of the books so I can’t comment. However, being a former book publicist I’m fascinated with all the press the book has received. Every week it seems like another article about it or the author pops up on the Internet. I thought this was one very interesting. How EL James made 20 million pounds in 18 months. Here’s a link if you want to check it out.

If nothing else it’s a good case study in the business side of being a writer.

I’m still working on the cover of my How to Write a Romance Novel and think I’ve finally got something I like. I never thought being in charge of creating your own graphics could be this tough, but then again I’m picky. When it’s all finished I’ll share it with you during one of my Friday Ramblings.

I got offered a contract for a Christmas story for Evernight Publishing’s upcoming Christmas anthology. I have another Christmas story with them that will be released under their Romance on the Go line.

This week I’ve been working on another story for that line and hope to get back to work on my romantic suspense novel. I also began teaching the POV workshop through the Colorado Romance Writers chapter.  Next month I’m teaching two at the same time which should be interesting.

Have a good weekend and happy writing.
