Friday Ramblings From An Author-Here Comes April

pc-1207686_640

The first three months of the year went by in a flash.  I did get a lot achieved but not as much as I hoped but tomorrow’s a new month and another opportunity.

I did get the final draft of my WIP finished and now I’m tackling the second draft while starting to revamp my next project.

Also on the to do list, work on lessons for two new workshops I’ll be teaching. One is on the topic of great beginnings for stories, the other one, self publishing. It’s always exciting to launch a new workshop and I have a feeling the self publishing one is going to be popular.

Other things on my to do list include lots of non-fiction book projects and more classes for Skillshare.

One thing I’ve been noticing is more people like publishers and review sites are venturing into setting up their own book store sites. I’ll have a couple of them to tell you about soon so if  you’re a self publisher you’ll definitely want to check them out.

Another project that I haven’t gotten around to yet is revamping this Web site. I’ve had the same graphics and set up for a couple of years and I’d like to spruce things up as well as post more content for you. Thanks to everyone of you who have signed up to be followers…I promise you there’s plenty of good stuff ahead.

Have a fun week and happy writing to all.

Friday Ramblings From An Author-Hello Spring

pc-1207686_640

Spring is here and I can’t wait to do some outside writing.

This week I added a new class to Skillshare and hope to add some more next month. I’m also working on lessons for the two new workshops I’ll be teaching in May. One’s on the topic of self publishing…I’ll be telling you more about that in the upcoming weeks.

I might just finish one of my WIPS over the weekend. It’s the first story in a new series and I’ve pushed myself to get to this point. When you’re writing all day sometimes the last thing you want to see are more words in the evening. It’s at that point you need to remind yourself you’re a writer and that’s what you do.

I’ll be giving this site (and my other sites) a slight revamp and yes, I’m going to keep to my word of posting more stuff on here too.

Anything you’d like to see? Markets looking for writers maybe? Weekly motivation posts? Interviews for authors?

Leave a comment and let me know.

I’ll keep this Rambling short as I’m determined to get that first draft completed in the next 48 hours.

Have a fun week and happy writing to all.

Friday Ramblings From An Author-Happy Saint Patrick’s Day

pc-1207686_640

The weather’s been on a rollercoaster ride but spring will soon be here which is a great time for evaluating how you’re doing with your writing goals.

I haven’t achieved as many as I’d hope to during this first three months but there’s plenty of time for catching up.

How about you? Are you falling behind or ahead on your to do list?

One thing I did get done this week was I published the print version of my How to Write an Erotic Romance.  I opted for the paperback format through KDP rather than Createspace. Anyone else use it yet? I think it’s in beta at the moment and maybe Amazon is seeing how well it does. Anyone heard if Createspace is going away or what?

I think the two interfaces are similar and the one thing I like about the KDP version is you can get everything done straight away and no more waiting for an e-mail letting you know if you need to fix anything.

I’m now working on my WIPs again, and next week I hope to get some new classes uploaded to various platforms, plus make a dent in my non-fiction work.

Busy times ahead and with spring in sight, maybe blue skies too.

Hope everyone’s having a happy Saint Patrick’s Day.

Have a fun week and happy writing to all.

Friday Ramblings From An Author-Do You Want to Be A Book Reviewer?

Friday greetings.

Have any of you thought about becoming a book reviewer?

The reason I ask is because the nice folks at Long and Short Reviews are currently looking for more reviewers.  I’ve been reviewing for them for eight years and for both authors and readers it’s a win-win situation. While you won’t get paid, you’ll get free e-books to read…even print ones when you’ve been a reliable reviewer for a while. You’ll be part of a nice community that corresponds through a Yahoo Group, and best of all, if you’re author you get to learn more about the craft of writing. (So as not to go off on a tangent here I’ll be posting more about that some other time). If you’re interested, here’s a link to more information and if you contact them tell them Susan P sent you.

I’m pleased to say I finally got my reworked story finished and published. I released it yesterday and here’s the cover…another one I created myself-

Big Sky Lawmen

Now I’m back to working on my other three WIPs and gearing up to get rights back to another book next month. It will be the first book in my Perfect Pairing series but I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it or what direction I’ll take. One thing I do know is, it’s going to have a major overhaul.

I’m also working on some non-fiction work and putting together a couple more classes for online platforms. More news about these in a future Ramblings.

Have a good week and happy writing to all.

Monday Writing Prompts-Read an E-Book Week

still-life-1037378_640

Did you know that it’s Read an E-Book Week? While you don’t have to go to the library to borrow one I thought the library might be a great topic for this week’s prompt. Let’s combine it with an opening line prompt too.

Your character walks into the library and says this opening line-

“I never thought I’d see this at my local library.”

Have fun and happy writing.

Friday Ramblings From An Author-Wasted Morning

Welcome to March and 60 degree weather is on the horizon. I’m sure there are some of you who live in warm climates, thinking, geez, that’s cold, but believe me, here in the frozen tundra (as I call it), that’s a heatwave especially for early March.

Have you ever had a wasted morning? Not wasted on you simply doing nothing but trying to do something and getting nowhere? That’s how this morning started for me trying to get a better price on my domain renewals, thinking I’d achieved just that and finding out the deal was even worse than the original price. The added downside was it took close to an hour and half to get to the point and I watched my morning fading away.

At least I got caught up with my to do list this afternoon and actually got a book loaded onto Amazon…looks like it’s already on the site so here it is.

marketing-book

This time I decided to write a short book based on the lessons I put together for a book marketing class I once taught. For those of you who don’t know, before I switched to freelance writing I worked in public relations. Anyway, this book isn’t just for authors but just about anyone who’s looking for a tips on how to ‘get noticed’.

Yes, I finally finished the first draft of my new fiction WIP. As soon as I finish writing this post, I’m going to start on draft two. I’m running way behind with my fiction but hopefully one of these days I’ll catch up.

Have a fun week and happy writing to all.
