And So It Begins-NaNoWriMo 2018

Promptober’s history and I hope you enjoyed it. Today I thought I’d kick off NaNoWriMo 2018 with a pep talk for everyone, (myself included).

It’s sort of ironic because as I’m putting this together, writing is the last thing I actually want to do. It’s Wednesday evening, it’s been a busy week, finishing one class and preparing for two more to begin tomorrow, and working with my private students. I republished a back title, and today, recorded next month’s Skillshare classes. It’s also been one of those days when things have gone wrong. I’d like to binge watch something…I wouldn’t even mind just sitting looking out of the window for an hour. I can’t because I’m a writer and I can’t call myself that if I don’t write. This post being one of the things I need to do.

Long story short, some days you don’t feel like writing, but if you let one day become two, two days before three and so on, it’s a hard journey back. Yes, been there done that.

No one said this is easy. In fact, if it was, everyone would be an author. What separates a wannbe writer from a published one, isn’t talent, it’s the tenacity to go the extra mile. The motivation to drag your tired butt to the chair, those weary figures on the keys, the foggy brain to fire up and create something brilliant.

Whether you’re taking part in NaNoWriMo or not, I want you to set a goal of writing something everyday for the next 30 days. I’ve opted not to take part this year but I will be working on one of my projects without fail. By December 1st, I might have the beginning of a new story, a finally finished one, outline of a book…I don’t know what but I’m going to do it.

That’s my pep talk and I hope you’ll join me. Let me know what you’re planning to do this month, whether it’s NaNoWrimo or like me, a bunch of various projects. Share it with the TWL community and let’s cheer one another on.

Let’s get started….
