Tuesday Guest Blogger-Katy Eeten

Say hello to today’s guest blogger, Katy Eeten…

When did you begin writing?

I began writing short stories and poems when I was very young, but I was in my mid-twenties when I decided that publishing a book was something I wanted to aim for. It didn’t happen my first couple attempts, and I pushed the dream aside without much thought as I moved into motherhood. Then a few years ago (in my mid-thirties), I decided to take aim again. This time, I made it!

What’s been your biggest challenge?

Finding the right publisher for my genre and skill level was uncharted territory for me. But my biggest challenge since getting published is probably marketing/promotion. Social media helps, but with so many e-books saturating the market, it’s really hard to “stand out” from the rest – especially without feeling like I’m over-promoting to my friends and family. Ha!

Why did you choose your genre?

I love a good clean romance, both reading it and writing about it. But faith is a big part of my life as well, and I feel the two go well together – romantic love and God’s love. It’s a great way to share my faith while also entertaining romance readers.

What writing tips would you like to share?

Multiple rounds of editing are a must! Read your writing out loud to see where it sounds unnatural. Also, on a more practical level, try to avoid dialogue tags (i.e. she said; he exclaimed; I pondered). If you put an action tag next to the dialogue instead, it’s still clear who is speaking and the reader gets a more vivid picture in their mind. (Ex. Amy shrugged and fiddled with her straw wrapper. “I have no idea what I’m going to do.”)

What are you currently working on?

I just signed a contract for a Christmas novella due out this holiday season called First Class Christmas. I can’t wait for this one. I love Christmas!

What would you like to promote today?

I’d love to share about my third and latest book – contemporary Christian romance A Heart Held Captive. The official blurb is below. It’s available for paperback, kindle and KU on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/Heart-Held-Captive-Katy-Eeten-ebook/dp/B07PLQNCB2/ref
