Story Sparklers-Showing and Not Telling

No Tuesday guest blogger today so thought we’d dive into another Story Sparkler.

This time it’s all about showing versus telling. Telling a story rather than showing it, is a common reason for the dreaded rejection letter.

Here’s a short scene from a story, see how you can take it from its fatal telling mode to showing the reader this scene-

It was a dismal day. Clouds hung low. It had been raining for the fourth straight day. The beach was deserted. One boat was brave enough to venture out and it bounced around like a toy in the bath.
