Friday Ramblings From An Author-Cold, Snow, Cold, Snow

The title I’ve given this week’s Ramblings sums up what the weather has been like this past week. I don’t want to hear anyone singing I’m Dreaming of A White Christmas. It’s snowing again as I write this and it’s not even officially winter yet.

I’ll stop my whining now and tell you about the non-weather parts of my week. I published the last release of the year and here’s the cover-

I’m still working on my three new stories that I hope to publish in February and March. I’ve decided to reserve January which is usually slow in the book world for revamped older stories. I’ll also be working on a new non-fiction title that won’t be a writing how to but I think it will be of some use to writers and authors.

This week I also took the bold step of entering an art contest. And why do I tell you this when this site has a writing focus? As I was working on my entry which was my first attempt at watercolor painting, I kept thinking, this is awful, no that’s no right, okay quit now… I realized they’re the sort of things I told myself when I began writing and I’m sure most other authors feel like that or even continue to feel like that. With that in mind, I thought what do I always tell my students when they’re having self doubts like the ones I had while I was painting? Don’t be critical of yourself but just go for it. So that’s what I did. I finished the painting and even had the courage to submit it. I probably don’t have any chance of winning but I silenced my inner critic and went for it and that’s what you need to do when you’re sitting down to write too.

Have a good week and happy writing to all.
