I spend my days not only writing and working with aspiring writers, but following industry trends.
My golden rule is don’t write to trends but it’s the wise writer who’s in the know about what’s hot and what’s not.
Remember the vampire era…Twilight and everyone jumping on the bandwagon of writing a story with a vampire hero or even heroine?
The trend came to a crashing halt…as it always does, but today I read an article saying that, wait for it, the vampires are back. Not only back but the YA genre with anything bloodsuckers in the story line is selling quite nicely.
Don’t go writing one, if one, you hate bloodsuckers. Don’t write one if you intend to go the traditional publishing route or via an agent. By the time they look at it, you get a contract, they publish it….vampires will be old news again.
Go for it, if you already have one finished…hit the send button to an editor or agent as soon as you finish reading this. Go for it, if you have a polished one and it’s ready to self publish. In fact, head over to one of the platforms and upload it ASAP.
Okay, enough said about vampires. What have I been up to this week? The Plotting Your Novel boot camp kicked off on Wednesday. My private students got their goals and assignments for the month of May…I’m so proud of them because they are writing like never before.
I also got all the book covers designed for the books I’ll be getting rights back to. I thought while I was working on one, I might as well finish them all.
One other project is a new site…well, it’s my old self pubbing one that I’m renaming and will soon be relaunching it with a new self publishing program. I’m excited about it and will tell you more next week.
Another work week has flown by and looks like it’s turning colder this weekend so indoor projects for me. I’m also going to watch the new season of Dead to Me on Netflix. If you haven’t seen the show yet definitely check it out.
Thank you to everyone who followed TWL this week.
Until Monday, have a fun weekend and happy writing to all.
I’d love to see vampires comes back in the horror sphere. I feel like there’s a ton of unexplored potential there. Whereas, they’ve really been done to death in romance.
