I’m behind with posting my tip of the day and my Friday Ramblings. For some reason I had trouble getting onto WordPress later this afternoon. Anyone else have problems?
I’ll start with my tip for this 20th day of NaNoWriMo and it’s use the challenge to gauge what’s difficult and what’s easy for you as a writer. Is dialogue easy for you, or maybe writing description? Make a note of your strengths and weaknesses and once the challenge is over, work on them.
Today I got the book cover for my next release…Thursday and it’s the first of my two Christmas stories. This one is called Brody which is part of my Big Sky County series. I have to say it was one of my favorite books to write and the plot went in a direction I hadn’t planned on. Only this week, one of my students asked me if I’ve ever had a character take over a plot and dictate where it’s going. I told her yes, and this book came to mind. Initially, the character was in town to track down three men for one reason but then once I began writing, that reason completely changed and the story went in a whole new direction. Here’s a look at the cover-
I spent a good part of my week loading books onto Smashwords. I’d heard it could be a challenge, and yes, it has been, but hopefully I’ve now got the hang of things.
I’m about 12,000 words into my WIP, another Big Sky County story and using some of the characters from Brody. I’m hoping to squeeze in one more story before this year ends but I’ll see how things go.
Have a fun week and happy writing to all.
Great post. I breathed a sigh of relief that I’m not the only one who allows characters to dictate plot.
