Guest Author-Maggie Blackbird

Please welcome the first guest author of 2024 and it’s Maggie Blackbird.

I’m a big music junkie.  I love, love, love music.  My fave genre is hard rock and heavy metal.  Music serves as a big inspiration for me when it comes to writing.  My latest release is Twisted Beauty, a m/m dystopian romance, so a nice flavour of a heavy metal playlist for my daily workouts hit the spot.  I find listening to music, especially a playlist for my latest WIP, is a big help when I’m pedalling away on my recumbent bike or on the elliptical.

Since my latest novel is on the violent, dark side, I needed lots of heavy metal and hard rock music to power through while working out.  Exercising is when I plot scenes in my head that I later transfer to my WIP.  It also helps me find the right tone for the novel.

Playlists even follow the plot of the novel.  I make them according to each chapter and scene.  Mind you, I’m a bit on the scheduling side with everything in my life.  I like neat and tidy.  There is no chaos for me when it comes to writing.  My preference is blurb first, and then I begin writing the novel.

Here’s a peek at one of my playlists:

Judas Priest:  Heavy Duty/Defenders of the Faith

Judas Priest:  Worth Fighting For

Kiss:  Flaming Youth

Volbeat:  A Warrior’s Call

Ozzy Osbourne:  Suicide Solution

Ozzy Osbourne:  Rock ‘n’ Roll Rebel

Judas Priest:  Hot for Love

Judas Priest:  Eat Me Alive

Having music for inspiration stops me from hitting the wall aka writer’s block.  If I get stuck, I simply listen to music and I’m back on track.

How about you?  Who/What serves as your writing inspiration?

His community or his enemy.  He can’t have both.

Deep in the badlands, long after the fall of modern civilization, Hunter patrols the area as the war chief for his Lakota community.  His latest mission is to hunt down a marauder who robbed his neighbors of their precious goods.  He’ll act as this man’s judge, jury, and executioner.

Having lost everything at his former Ojibway encampment, Chassis is far from home.  He wanders the badlands, a grim reaper bringing death to those with what he needs to survive.  But there is one man courageous enough to challenge him.

When the duo faces off, neither expects the sizzling chemistry to erupt between them, nor for their duel to touch what both have denied themselves.  Now they must choose to either remain together and sacrifice their beliefs, or go their separate ways, losing what they’ve spent their lives searching for—love.

About Maggie

An Ojibway from Northwestern Ontario, Maggie resides in the country with her husband and their fur babies, two beautiful Alaskan Malamutes.  When she’s not writing, she can be found pulling weeds in the flower beds, mowing the huge lawn, walking the Mals deep in the bush, teeing up a ball at the golf course, fishing in the boat for walleye, or sitting on the deck at her sister’s house, making more wonderful memories with the people she loves most.
