Living Your Dream…a pep talk

I wasn’t sure what I was going to write about on today’s blog, but the beauty of being an author is something always comes to mind. Oftentimes, something happens or someone says something that gives you a nudge.

Life sometimes gives you a gentle reminder about living your dream too. I don’t know if it’s because it’s winter and cold in many places of the world, but it seems like just about everyone I know has someone who’s facing a health issue. One of those people is my aunt in London. I had a letter from my cousin telling me that she’d had a massive stroke and would now be bedridden and in an assisted living facility for the rest of her life.  I remember talking to her about three years ago, and for some reason, the topic of me always wanting to learn to play the piano, came up. She never knew I harbored that desire and when I heard about her having a stroke, I recalled her telling me, you have to do it.

I’m about to share a secret with you…I’ve had a Casio keyboard sitting under the bed in the spare room for….now, that I won’t tell you that because I’m too ashamed. Let’s just say when I pulled it out, dust bunnies were enjoying their retirement on the keys and in the nooks and crannies. Dusted off, it now sits on top of a table, calling my name. I know it’s not the full keyboarded piano I dreamed about playing, but it’s a way for me to learn to play (I’m hoping YouTube has some great tutorials). It’s a way for me to realize another one of my dreams.

What I’m about to tell you, well, I hope you don’t find it depressing in anyway but it’s my pep talk to you. Life is shorter than any of us ever imagine and you never know when an illness or accident will stop you from realizing the dream you’ve held in your heart for what could be all your life.

If you have a dream, a burning desire to do something, such as write a book, travel, and yes, learn to play an instrument, please promise me that this week you’ll take one step toward doing it.
