The Writing Monster

Here’s today’s Thursday guest blogger, Mageela Troche telling us how to overcome fear in writing…

There is much to a writer’s life. Writing, revising, submitting, publishing, social media, publicity and us writers have to do it all over again.

One part of a writer’s life that can pull you into a deep hole has nothing to do with the craft but what is within us. That part of a writer’s life can have us stop writing, stop believing in ourselves and have the little voices in our head berate us and tell us that nothing we do is go enough.

Lack of confidence, you say?

No, it’s fear.

We all fear that we are not good enough writers like (insert favorite author’s name here) at some point while doing any and all aspects of an author’s business. Some times, that fear isn’t a bad part. It can lead us to improve our craft and learn new skills. Other times, it snatch away the floor and drop us into the basement of despair.

So, how do you deal with that? How do you get over it?

First off, you have to realize that that evil little voice is speaking. Sometimes, that monster voice has been yapping for a while before you realize that you have branded those demeaning words on your very soul.

Then, you need to shut it up. It will rear it’s ugly head again and again. But you have the power to stop it so see that you do.

Now comes the part that will let you beat that fear. Whatever that fear is telling you that you are not skilled enough or good enough or smart enough to do then you go and you do it.

Write and write and write.

Edit and edit and edit.

Submit and submit and submit.

Publish and publish.

Learn all you can about that social media outlet.

Learn to write a press release.

Because fear is conquered when you do that one thing that makes you sweat, shake or cry. Just kept on going forward.

Because you are a writer.

About Mageela

An Air Force brat, Mageela Troche has lived throughout the world then landed in New York City. She wanted to leave the same day she arrived. Yet, with her stubbornness, Mageela learned to like the place and the libraries were the main reason. Since she was a little girl, Mageela wanted to be an author and an actress, however, once in college, she changed her life plan in the pursuit of money. After all, college loans must be repaid.

With life’s twists and turns, she returned to writing and focused on the romance genre. Mageela Troche’s first break came when she sold a short story to a magazine. She sold two more before the publication of her historical romance novel, The Marriage Alliance. She has gone on to write four more novels and a novella.

Mageela is currently writing in the cramped corner of her Big Apple apartment. She is the proud owner of a Black-masked lovebird named Boobula. She loves to hear from her readers and can be found online at MageelaTroche.com
