This week’s guest is D.V Stone…
This Writer’s Life-(TWL)-Welcome to the Wednesday blog, happy to have you join us today. Introduce yourself and tell us about yourself, your writing and your books.
D.V.Stone (DVS)-Hi! First, thank you for sharing your space with me. I love talking about writing and books, so I’m excited to be here
TWL-Why and when did you decide to become an author?
DVS-During a previous economic downturn, I lost a job I’d been in for many years. I loved going to work there but que sera sera, right? I struggled at first, wondering what to do with the rest of my life. I’d always been a bookworm, often reading a novel a day. It seemed the perfect time to give it a go. Now here I am with another book soon to be released.
TWL-What’s a typical writing session like for you?
DVS-It varies. I try to write each day. That, for me, includes not only my books but blogs and social media posts. I do most of my work in the later morning after my coffee and a crossword to get the brain going. Depending on the stage I’m it may be creating, but also editing and my arch nemesis formatting.
TWL-What have you learned most from being a writer?
DVS-That it’s not an easy road. I often hear the words, “I should write a book.” I’ve said it myself in the past. It takes more than a story in your head. The time, effort, patience, and rejections can be daunting. But I also learned that I love it, and now I’m a full-time author, I wouldn’t give it up.
TWL-What’s been the biggest struggle, and how did you overcome it?
DVS-My biggest struggle is still going on. Getting my books into the hands of the readers. So many books are being released every week; getting your name out is difficult.
TWL-What’s been your biggest victory?
DVS-Hmm? I have two that go hand in hand. Being published is neck and neck with the first time a reader said I made them cry.
TWL-If you could give advice to your pre-author self, what would it be?
DVS-Listen to what others are saying. If someone says your story has a problem, look at it. It may or not be. But if more than one says the same thing, you need to address it.
TWL-What writing tip would you offer to a new author?
DVS-Write the best book you can and get the best editor you can afford. Never stop learning and do your research.
TWL-What would you like to promote today?
DVS-I am excited to talk about my first historical/paranormal/action adventure/romance. Sea Hunter is part of a seven-author series called The Mortar & Pestle Series. A group of us became friends on Zoom in a support group where we had shoulders to cry on, brains to pick, and like-minded creatives to discuss all things book.
We’re all different genres, but we found a common thread to bring the series to life. Sea Hunter though a novella, took more research than I’ve ever done. It takes place post-WWII and is about Zahra Corbyn, an underwater archeologist and professor of antiquities. It was a hoot to write.

A wisp of smoke, a swirl of promise, a breath of destiny…a message within the Mortar & Pestle for those who want to believe. Throughout time people have sought their heart’s desire. But true love is often elusive. Carved with ancient Norse runes, the Mortar & Pestle shows paths to happily-ever-afters. Once you capture the Mortar & Pestle’s scent of magic, you’ll want to read all seven individual romances.
Sea Hunter:
On the turbulent high seas, an archeologist must protect a historic shipwreck from treasure hunters—not fall for one.
Zahra Corbyn.
I’m a Sea Hunter. As an underwater archeologist and professor of antiquities, it is my duty to stop treasure hunters and looters from raiding Sea Wraith. But fate is a funny thing. Now I find myself working with Jack Alexander, a treasure hunter, to protect history from a known looter. Did my heart’s desire change?
Captain Jack Alexander.
I’ve been told women on a ship are unlucky, but this one has the two pieces of the map I need to finally claim Sea Wraith. Now I find myself in a deal that makes me one-third partner with her and a known scoundrel.
Can the two unlikely allies work together while safeguarding their hearts against the power of the Mortar and Pestle?
If you like Lara Croft and Indiana Jones, you’ll love Zahra Corbyn and Jack Alexander.
