I’ve never had so much time on my hands.
Have you been hearing this too?
As a coach, I’m hired and paid to motivate writers to write, to get their book finished, and sometimes I hand out tough love.
Here’s my tough love talk if you’re one of the many people who always complain there’s never enough time to write.
We’re all busy, we all have things to do but as the opening sentence in this post suggests, change things around a bit and everyone’s got the time.
If you’re one of those, I’ve never had so much time on my hands, people, sit and think about why you’ve suddenly been blessed with more hours in the day. No, you’ve not been given an extra magical hour or two. It’s still the same 24 hours.
So what is it that under normal circumstances that eats up your time.
Could it be…
Sitting doing nothing but watch TV?
Surfing the internet?
Checking e-mail?
Posting to Instagram or Twitter?
Hanging out on Facebook?
Going out every night with friends?
Pursuing a hobby that takes you out of your house for hours on end?
Doing stuff that doesn’t make you happy?
Now is the perfect time to think about why you have more time.
When things go back to normal, think about what you need to give up in order to write.
Yes, it’s a sacrifice. You sometimes have to give up a hobby or time with friends in order to write. I’d never go as far as to say give up everything that you love and enjoy but writing is all about being committed.
No one said it was easy, if it was then everyone would write no end of books.
Sometimes it’s not lack of talent that prevents someone from becoming a published author, but they’re not willing to give up something else in their life in order to make that happen.
Don’t be one of those people.
Tough love talk over, now go and write!
