Take It Easy

Here’s our final guest blogger for 2019 and it’s Mageela who writes on a topic all of us should take note of.  (Let’s all wish Mageela a happy birthday!)

The holiday season can be a hectic time of the year. There are Thanksgiving meals to prepare, dinners to enjoy and then comes Christmas or Hanukkah and New Year’s Eve. There are parties, shopping, family visiting or visiting family, dinner parties, office parties and kids on winter break and that doesn’t include your daily life.

For me, my birthday falls on the first week of December then there are my nephew’s birthday, two nieces birthdays and that is all before Christmas so much is happening during this time. So, physically and mentally I am exhausted. During the holiday season, I find writing is a hardship. And as a indie author I can set my release schedule so I take a break.

So, this is the perfect time of the year to take a winter break to replenish myself.  I whittle down my TBR (to be read) pile of books and enjoy spending time with the people I love. I count my blessings and enjoy the time. I audit my year and see where I failed or succeeded. I also prepare my goals for the new year.  And since I live in New York City, I enjoy all the Christmas displays about town. The Rockefeller Christmas tree and displays on Fifth Avenue. This year, I am even thinking of taking a picture with Santa like I did when I was a child.

Writing requires much of ourselves. Like Hemmingway said, “All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” He was right. We sit down and pour out our emotions, fears, ideas, wishes, and everything else that we have within ourselves. That takes a toll and we must let ourselves rest, heal, and sharpen the writer’s conscious. The holiday season can be the perfect time for that as the world is full of warm feelings and hope as the child spirit returns to us in our lives.

Do you agree that you need to replenish? Is the holiday season good one for you or do you have another time that is for you—perhaps, it’s summer and that includes a cocktail on the beach?

About Mageela

An Air Force brat, Mageela Troche has lived throughout the world then landed in New York City. She wanted to leave the same day she arrived. Yet, with her stubbornness, Mageela learned to like the place and the libraries were the main reason. Since she was a little girl, Mageela wanted to be an author and an actress, however, once in college, she changed her life plan in the pursuit of money. After all, college loans must be repaid.

With life’s twists and turns, she returned to writing and focused on the romance genre. Mageela Troche’s first break came when she sold a short story to a magazine. She sold two more before the publication of her historical romance novel, The Marriage Alliance. She has gone on to write four more novels and a novella.

Mageela is currently writing in the cramped corner of her Big Apple apartment. She is the proud owner of a Black-masked lovebird named Boobula. She loves to hear from her readers and can be found online at MageelaTroche.com
