Upcoming Writing Classes and A New Format for 2021

No, Tuesday guest blogger this week.

The last session of the summer writing retreat is over half way done and after a week break, I’ll then be back to focusing on teaching the last classes for 2020, two of them will be regular workshops, while the other four are boot camps.

I usually tell you about upcoming classes to promote them but that’s just one of the reasons, I’m doing it this time around. The other reason is because it’s the last time I’ll be teaching them in this format.

The way things (including classes) are presented come and go, and this year I’ve slowly been seeing a change in how people want to take workshops.  I’ve therefore made a decision that 2020 will be the last year I teach classes this way.

For the last twelve years, I’ve been teaching only one or two classes per month. If you missed a topic then you had to wait for it to be taught again later in the year. Also, some students would register but something came up and they couldn’t participate as much as they liked. I’m also seeing more people wanting to just read the lessons, work at their own pace and not participate in class questions or discussions.

So with this in mind, starting in 2021, the classes will be self paced, on demand, take them whenever you want, no waiting until say May to take a class on short story writing. If you wake up one morning and decide you want to learn how to plot a novel, all you have to do is sign up and you’re ready to go with all the information available whenever you need it, even if it’s a year or two from now.

Between now and 2021, I’ll be revamping all the classes, adding some new content, adding some audio and video content to some, and then uploading them to my site. (I’ll eventually add them to the TWL site too).

However, if you do like the old format, here are the six remaining classes I’ll be teaching for OIRWA this year. You don’t have to be a member to take a class, they’re delivered straight to your e-mail so you don’t need to be online at a given day and time. And you don’t have to be writing a romance, these are classes that are applicable for any genre.

Feel free to e-mail me at writerslifeblog@gmail.com if you have any questions or if there’s any particular topic you’d like to see added to the new format for 2021.
