What Have You Done This Year…what do you have left to do?

Madeline McEwen is back with a reminder that should have us thinking about what we want to achieve for the rest of 2019…

That is an alarming title, although “one-third left” might be worse. In four months, 2020 will arrive and we’ll count our achievements on New Year’s Eve. How has this year whizzed by so swiftly? And, why is that bad? How come I haven’t cured my innate pessimism yet? After all, I moved to California two decades ago. Surely my inbred British cynicism should have died by now.

A dazzling list of my writerly goals might be impressive, but it wouldn’t reflect the other notable achievements on the domestic front. My two adult sons are autistic. [And time consuming] But my job is to make sure they’re living independently by the time I’m dead–hopefully not in the next four months.

Hence, if you have not achieved all, most, or some of your targets, maybe you need a new yardstick. Our choices define us, but don’t beat yourself up. What is important to you? That’s where we need to focus.
