Writing Opportunities for 2024 and Beyond

If only we had a crystal ball and could see the future.

Part of being a successful a writer is forecasting what’s going to be hot and what’s not.

Students in my fearless freelancing course have been asking me what I think about the future of writing and where the opportunities will be in the coming years.

Here’s what I came with-

Resume Writing

Writing doesn’t happen in a vacuum and sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture that being what’s happening socially, culturally etc. I think next year we’re going to see more people looking for work. It could be because of downsizing or even they want to go in a new direction. I also think there will be a lot more competition for jobs and people will be looking to create a resume that stands out from the crowd. If you have resume writing skills or a desire to learn, I’d say this would be a good bet for writers.

Business Plan Writers

This opportunity sort of ties in with the previous one. If people lose their jobs, can’t find employment and opt to start their own business, they need a business plan. This is especially vital if they’re going to seek funding or a bank loan. If you can help potential entrepreneurs write a great business plan, you, yourself are in business.

Ghostwriting

Once again, this ties in with the previous opportunities. When people lose their jobs, they sometimes put their previous skills and expertise into writing a book. The problem is not everyone can write or likes to write and that’s where you will come into play.

Real Writing Not AI Generated

I’m hearing about lots of authors using AI to write books or content for blogs etc. I feel if you can offer something that’s still written by a human, it might be a great marketing tool.

Grant Writing

People are feeling the pinch of higher prices and I think it’s going to continue. They’re going to be less likely to donate to non-profits. Non-profits rely on donations and if they dry up, the next alternative is getting a grant. It’s a specialized form of writing but if you can write and like to write and are willing to learn this skill, I think there will be lots of work for you.

Stay tuned because I’m going to write a similar post for fiction writers!
