This Writer’s Life-(TWL)-Welcome to This Writer’s Life, happy to have you join us today. Introduce yourself and tell us about yourself, your writing and your books.

TWL-Why and when did you decide to become an author?

I’ve always had the dream, but life gets in the way of that, doesn’t it? But back in 2016 I was laid off from a job after 10 years. By this time, I was an empty nester. It was time. Now, here I am with twelve published works.

TWL-What’s a typical writing session like for you?

Recently, due to health circumstances and the holidays, I’ve been all over the place. But the usual routine is to hit the computer in the morning. Check correspondence. Post to Social Media, then close them all down and open my word processor. Sometimes, things just flow and I’ll get quite a bit written, although some days I’m happy to get a scene written.

TWL-What have you learned most from being a writer?

Perseverance. Practice. When you start writing, often you don’t realize what you don’t know. It would be easy to give up. That’s what those two Ps do to move the process along.

TWL-What’s been the biggest struggle and how did you overcome it?

Distractions. Unfortunately, often they can’t be overcome. Life is still going on. But for those that can, you have to buckle up. Shut down the browser, get off your phone, and sit in the chair.

TWL-What’s been your biggest victory?

The first time I published, which was an independent book. Then, when The Wild Rose Press contracted me.

TWL-If you could give advice to your pre-author self, what would it be?

Don’t be afraid. Start writing for yourself before you write for someone else. Realize being an author for most is a long term investment. Very few “make it” with their first book. You don’t want to set yourself up for disappointment.

TWL-What writing tip would you offer to a new author?

Editing is so important. If you are indy then get the best you can afford. Listen to your editor. Learn as much as you can before you don’t take their suggestions and only do it if it truly matters. Don’t lose your author voice. A good editor won’t let that happen.
